Common Mode and Differential Mode Inductor Core

The common mode inductor core is made of nanocrystalline, and it features low loss, small volume, light weight, high inductance, high insertion loss, good frequency characteristic, and high permeability as well as saturation flux density. It is especially suitable for protection of electronic instrument and electromagnetic interference (EMI). On the other hand, the differential mode inductor core is made of amorphous alloy, and it has low loss, excellent constant inductance property and superposition magnetic bias resistance. It is used for different kinds of inductors. In addition, it has two types, open-air-gap type and no-air-gap type.

Common mode inductor consists of core and 2 windings, and it is the filter inductor used to suppress the common mode interference. It is usually used in the switching power supply of computers. On the other hand, differential mode inductor has core and only 1 winding, and it is the filter inductor used to suppress the differential mode interference. It is suitable for situations with big current. Usually, ferrite and iron-dust are applied to produce inductor cores. They are cheap, but the magnetic properties are much worse when compared with nanocrystalline and amorphous alloy. In particular, the common mode inductor requires high initial permeability. Given this condition, we take nanocrystalline and amorphous alloy as the raw materials to produce common mode and differential mode inductor core.
